U.S. PREMIERE Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 8PM The most famous story in China, The Legend of White Snake is about the beautiful and forbidden love between a man and a benevolent white snake sorceress. Over the years this Chinese fable has been presented as opera, Peking opera, numerous films, TV series, and Japanese animation. Now it has been turned into a dramatic, multimedia stage play by the award-winning Italian dramatist, Giacomo Ravicchio. Performed in Mandarin with English sub-titles, this visually stunning performance includes a fairy-tale set of traditional Chinese paintings projected on multiple screens, as well as a score by French composer Jerome Baur, who combines traditional Chinese instrumentation with western symphonic, jazz and electronic arrangements pleasing to the American ear. Don’t miss Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center’s wonderful production which opens its first ever U.S. tour with a performance at the Haugh. |
