The screenplays are by Citrus College students participating in Citrus’ screenwriting classes. At the end of each evening, a talk-back session will provide audiences an opportunity to ask questions and give feedback to the young writers about their works in progress.

Different excerpts from The Bronze Star, the new play scheduled for a full production in the 2012 Theatre Arts season, will be read each evening. The screenplays read the first two evenings will include Act 1 only, and at the end of each, a brief synopsis will be presented giving the audience an idea of where the story goes and an indication of what the ending will be. SYNOPSIS INFORMATION:

THE BRONZE STAR by Dr. Bruce Solheim

Spanning the time period from the Vietnam war to today's global war on terror, The Bronze Star is a play about a young, heroic, gay soldier looking for acceptance, peace, love, and purpose. This soldier is traumatized by war and rejected by his family and an uncaring and intolerant society.

MOSAIC by Desire Perez

What do you do when you discover nothing is what you believed it to be? How do you put a life and a heart that has been shattered back together again? Mosaic is the story of a young woman who finds herself in this position, as she picks up the broken pieces . . . and makes a beautiful ’mosaic’ out of them.

HARD PRESS by Michael Reyes

Focusing on the lives of a sister and brother from a rough Los Angeles neighborhood, Hard Press explores the effect of personal choices when striving to balance family loyalty with personal gain. Esperanza, a motivated student becomes involved in a community center, while Randy, her younger brother, becomes affiliated with a local gang. As Esperanza works toward a successful life, her brother’s need for her support and guidance increases.
